Catechesis refers to all those efforts which help individuals and communities acquire and deepen Chrisitan faith and identity through initiation rites, instruction, and formation conscience (NCD #5).
The Office of Catholic Education aids faith communities in this endeavor by:
Ensuring that each local community has some catechetical structure (Diocesan Policy #201).
Being a resource for programs and persons in pre-school, elementary religious education, sacramental preparation for Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist and Reconciliation.
Being a resource person for programs and persons in Adult Faith Formation.
Providing assistance in determining curriculum, selecting textbooks, and designing programs.
Leading catechist formation and certification programs.
Encouraging and assisting faith communities in the hiring of professional catechetical leaders.
